Here you can grill the fresh seafood on your table. A daily meal set costs 999JPY. Today I had 2 clams, 1 turban shell, and 1 big clam. Before that, they gave me a delicious beef appetizer topped with cheese. Ordered the "surprise" salmon sushi 799JPY. The fish was lightly grilled and wrapped in huge rice rolls. I guess the surprise element was the huge slices of fish meat. I used my hands to eat it because it was too big and heavy for my chopsticks. Finished with the ramen soup 399JPY. I kept it warm on the grill. I felt pregnant after walking out of the store and all it cost me was about 1500JPY (shared). The taste was great and they looked fabulous. My previous muffins looked like flying saucers because I placed them too close to each other in the oven. The trick was to spread them out evenly and fill them up to 2/3 of the muffin cup. I also took care not to overmix the final batter. It was my first time to use whole wheat flour or 全粒粉. I used a 3:1 ratio for it and all purpose flour. I also reduced the oil to a quarter and added apple jam (I couldn't find apple sauce). This was an attempt to make the muffin "healthier" and easy on my diet. My next step is to completely replace the sugar with artificial sweetener. I have a feeling making this is going to get more and more expensive...

Ampalaya; Bitter Gourd; ゴーヤ Dish

I was never a fan of ampalaya. There's something about its taste that I find a bit off. But now I have come to love it. I guess sometimes one just needs a bit of bitterness once in a while. One piece of goya ゴーヤ cost me about 150JPY. I just soaked it in salt and squeezed it to get rid of the bitter taste. Then I sauteed it with tofu, eggs, some salsa, and bell peppers. Filling and healthy! Loved it. Perfect for my low-carb diet.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://takejiroedibles.blogspot.com/2009/06/ampalaya-bitter-gourd-dish.html' title='Ampalaya; And I always ordered this dish while my hubby had keema and ox brain. I'm not trying to make an exact copy, I just like cabbage and I happened to have left-over ground beef.

Ingredients:
ground beef
chopped garlic
dried chili
chopped cabbage
salt
pepper

Heat a bit of oil in a pan then throw in the beef. Add the cabbage and stir until soft around 3 minutes.

Chili Crab Pasta

I found this recipe on the net as I was craving for crab yesterday. I used a whole can (50ml) of minced crab for 1 serving and it cost me 249JPY (Tokyo prices are crazy!).

First Bento

This is my first official bento post. It's such a no-brainer to prepare and I'm afraid I'm going to end up buying lots of these. You can get a pack of 6 at 200JPY. Really useful when you're saving up for a weekend vacation/night out. I was proud as I finally did the Toumyou right this time. The trick is to really saute them under a minute, then you'll end up with crunchy veggies. :)

Toumyou トウミョウ: A New Veggie Favorite

They are also known as snow pea sprouts I think. I just made whatever was left in the fridge into something edible. :)

You'll need: 1 leek, 1 big chicken breast, 3 cloves garlic, 1/4 cup white wine, olive oil for frying, 1/2 cup cream of mushroom, salt, pepper, basil, and tarragon.

Cut the green part of one leek and throw it away. Half it lengthwise, fan out and wash thoroughly. Then cut into thin half rings and set aside. Cut some chicken breast into 1 inch cubes. Mince some garlic. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan and throw in the chicken. Saute until no longer pink (about 7 minutes). Take out the chicken and put in the leeks and garlic. Add 1/4 cup of white wine (I used cooking Japanese sake). Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Put back the chicken then add 1/2 cup of cream of mushroom. Stir for about a minute. Season with salt, lots of freshly ground pepper, basil, and tarragon. Partially cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Serve hot with rice!

Spicy Bhurmese Chicken

According to my roommate this wasn’t spicy enough.
